
The issue of food prices has reached a political breaking point. There is growing dissatisfaction with the administration’s dismal handling of inflation, unchecked and unmitigated since October last year.
The most recent Pulse Asia survey placed inflation as the people’s top concern. The other concerns are economic-related: salaries, jobs, hunger and poverty.
Feeding on the people’s hunger for solutions, a few would whip up images and rhetoric, goading the people to imagine a nation liberated from poverty and hunger. Two options are offered to the people: the ballot or the bullet. Neither has resulted in the much-promised liberation from penury./Joey Salgado
