The management of Moro Pop singer Shaira has owned up to plagiarizing a song by an Australian singer. As an act of contrition, they have taken down the viral hit, “Selos,” from all streaming platforms pending talks with the aggrieved party.
In the erratic world of popular music, plagiarism complaints often end in settlement. The less publicity, the better, especially for established singers and bands. But it could also be a career booster for newbies. “Selos” is still up on You Tube and raking in views. Song and artist are trending, according to Google. Not bad, not bad at all. /Joey Salgado
