If there’s one takeaway from the two-hour Facebook and Instagram glitch last March 5, it’s that we have allowed social media to run our lives. We are captives to technology, slaves to posting and reacting, scrolling and bashing.
Over 500,000 Facebook users and some 90,000 Instagram subscribers were locked out of their accounts. The alternatives - reading, talking to another human - were simply unappealing.
Digital separation anxiety or digital detox?
Social media used to be a fun place. Now it’s insular, narrow, and toxic. It has made us more anxious, angry, and paranoid. Two hours of peace and quiet wouldn’t hurt. /Joey Salgado
