CNN's exit reminds me of when we had the chance at running a free-to-air television station. The power of the medium is enculturation; TV can shape the values of generations. The religious and the political eagerly eye ownership of franchises for this reason. Running and providing content is the easy part, turning a profit is the challenge, as the moneyed behind CNN and TV5 realize. What we tried to do was for the country – for the young, but this foray into enculturation lasted only two years. From the little we did, we saw fruit, and we are still thanked lavishly. /Vincent R.
