Impunity thrives by default. We can’t stand the long wait, we don’t persevere. Our memories are short, and we consume with appetite the next scandal, often served by the very people who made us wait in the first place.
We are fragmented, lacking the memory of ever having fought to the last breath. So we retreat into kanya-kanya: bahala sila, basta tayo ay maayos. Or worse, into fatalism — they’re too powerful, too well-known.
Ardor is extinguished by exhaustion, the flame becoming a stubborn ember. Rest if you must, but rise still angry. Stay galit — because calm is how they win. /Pura Gonzalez Peñamante
