
When someone has dementia, the world becomes a tapestry of simple joys. The plot on the television fades in importance; what captivates her are the laughter, the clink of plates as actors eat. A smile on the screen draws out her own. Familiar faces may blur, replaced by the comfort of presence rather than recognition.
She offers a chair to any visitor, to share in her moment, her meal.
Lest I be accused of belittling a malady, this is but an observation: Here is a life I can't help but envy. Though bed-bound, life is good; she swims in care. /Vincent R. Pozon
