Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero says the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte will start in July, after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address. In case you didn’t notice, Escudero declared that he intends to preside over the trial. He advised his fellow senators to study as early as now. This means he expects to retain the Senate presidency in July even with the arrival of a new batch of 12 senators. I have always been awed by Escudero’s self-confidence. Unlike the better part of humanity, the good senator has not been cursed by humility. /Joey Salgado
